Η Εταιρεία Ελεύθερου Λογισμικού / Λογισμικού Ανοικτού Κώδικα (ΕΕΛ/ΛΑΚ) προσκαλεί κάθε ενδιαφερόμενο για την κατάθεση προτάσεων ανάπτυξης και επέκτασης ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ που είναι χρήσιμο για επιχειρήσεις και την εκπαιδευτική κοινότητα. Η ΕΕΛ/ΛΑΚ, εταιρεία με μη κερδοσκοπικό χαρακτήρα, έχει ως κύριο στόχο να συμβάλλει στην προώθηση και ανάπτυξη του ΕΛ/ΛΑΚ στο χώρο της εκπαίδευσης, του δημόσιου τομέα και των επιχειρήσεων στην Ελλάδα. Η ΕΕΛ/ΛΑΚ, ανταποκρινόμενη στο αυξανόμενο ενδιαφέρον για τα οφέλη της χρήσης του Ελεύθερου Λογισμικού, φιλοδοξεί να αποτελέσει κέντρο γνώσης και πλατφόρμα διαλόγου για το Ελεύθερο Λογισμικό/Λογισμικό Ανοικτού Κώδικα, και θα αναλάβει πρωτοβουλίες που θα διευκολύνουν και θα επιταχύνουν την χρήση του. Η πρόσκληση εκδήλωσης ενδιαφέροντος είναι ανοικτή σε όλους τους ενδιαφερόμενους.
Κάθε πρόταση μπορεί να έχει αμοιβή έως 4.000 €.

In the same vein, the government can spend $2 billion a year to
develop open source software. This money can be used to further
develop and simplify open source operating systems such as Linux, as
well other forms of free software. The payoffs from this spending
would be enormous. Imagine that every computer buyer in the world
would be able to get a computer for which the operating system was
free, as was almost all the software that they would ever use.
This would surely save consumers an average of at least $200 per
computer. With sales at close to 20 million a year, the savings in the
United States alone could easily exceed the cost of supporting
software development. Adding in the benefits (and presumably some
contributions) from the rest of the world, we will be way ahead by
going the route of publicly funded open software open software. The
cost would be $2 billion a year.
Struts 2.1.6 GA Released
Monday, January 26th, 2009Το Apache Foundation ανακοίνωση την GA release του struts 2.1. Η έκδοση 2.1 του struts δεν είναι μόνο μία bug fix release αφου συμπεριλαμβάνει πολλές βελτιώσεις και μερικά νεά χαρακτηριστικά. Πολλές βελτιώσεις έχουν γίνει στα κομμάτια σχετικά με το ajax. Το struts πλέον βασίζεται στην έκδοση 0.4.3 to Dojo (από την 0.4.0), ενώ δεν υπάρχει το ajax theme το οποίο αντικαταστάθηκε από plug-in του Dojo.
